Scholarship Opportunities for Students

The Columbia Chapter of the Health Physics Society (CCHPS), the Eastern Washington Section of the American Nuclear Society (ANS-EWS), and Herbert M. Parker Foundation are proud to announce multiple scholarship opportunities for students enrolled in or seeking enrollment to a health physics, nuclear science and engineering, or related educational program at an accredited institution.

This year, eight scholarships are exclusively available to students presenting at the Herbert M. Parker symposium. To apply for any of the scholarships listed below, please fill out the application form and forward all necessary documents to the Scholarship Committee before the scholarship application deadline: January 18th, 2022.

CCHPS General Scholarship

The Columbia Chapter of the Health Physics Society is proud to announce two $2,000 scholarship awards to students in a health physics-related educational path at an accredited institution. Eligible fields of study include, but are not limited to: radiation protection; nuclear engineering; x-ray/nuclear medicine; or health physics certification.

Herbert M. Parker Scholarship

The Herbert M. Parker Scholarship for education in the radiological sciences memorializes Mr. Parker and his many significant contributions to radiation protection, radiation biology, the environment and radiotherapy. The scholarship supports scientific and educational activities that further develop technical advances and enhance public understanding of science and technology as applied to health and the environment.

The scholarship consists of two $2,000 awards to a student in a health physics-related educational path at an accredited institution (community college, university). Eligible fields of study include, but are not limited to: radiation protection; nuclear engineering; x-ray/nuclear medicine; or health physics certification.

ANS-EWS Scholarship

The Eastern Washington Section of the American Nuclear Society (ANS-EWS) is committed to encouraging students to enter the field of nuclear science and technology and to advancing the careers of young nuclear professionals. Nuclear energy has been, and will continue to be an important part of our future. ANS-EWS encourages the next generations of engineers and scientists to choose a career in a nuclear-related field.

ANS-EWS will award four students with a one-year scholarship of $2,000. Applicants must be high school seniors or existing college students planning a career in nuclear science, nuclear engineering or a nuclear-related field. Applicants must be currently enrolled full-time, or to be enrolled in fall of 2022, in an accredited four-year college or university in the U.S.A.

Eligibility & Document Checklist

Eligible fields of study in the radiological sciences include, but are not limited to:

Health physics/radiation protection;

Nuclear engineering;

X-ray/nuclear medicine; or

Health physics certification.

Letter of recommendation from a math or science teacher or college instructor

Transcript of grades (it is acceptable to send a photocopy, faxed copy, or a downloaded copy of a transcript as long as the copy is legible and contains the required information)

Applicant should have a poster abstract submitted prior to applying to the scholarship, Scholarships are exclusively available to students presenting at the Herbert M. Parker symposium.
